How this practice works
A general family practice, run by the same family for two generations. Here is what that means when you are the one in the chair.
The problem: a different office for every generation, and a referral for every job.
Dr. Sicher and his team care for infants, children, teens and adults, all at one convenient location. The practice can typically provide every type of dental service without referring you to other specialties, which keeps your family’s care in one place and saves you time.
The problem: a first visit that sets up a lifetime of dread.
A child’s first visit is mostly about getting to know the dentist and the team. Where possible, children sit on a parent’s lap in the exam room, and they are encouraged to talk about anything that worries them. A pleasant first visit builds the trust every later one depends on.
The problem: finding out what you owe after the fact.
“We promise to speak candidly with you.” After your examination you get a detailed summary of what was found and what is proposed. The office submits your dental claims for you, and will call your insurer to find out whether you will owe a co-pay or deductible.

About our doctor
A dentist in Hershey who provides general dentistry, including white fillings, implants and porcelain crowns, to families: kids and parents alike. He learned the practice from the man who built it, working beside his father for six years before taking it on.
“Although there was an administrative change, the philosophy of the practice remained the same.” Father and son worked side by side for six years before the practice passed from one to the other.
Dickinson College for a bachelor's degree in biology, then Temple for dentistry. He joined his father in 1994, worked beside him for six years, and has led the practice on his own since his father retired in the fall of 2000. Outside the office: guitar, swimming and do-it-yourself hobbies. He and his wife, Kathy, have two children and one dog.

Every hygienist here is a Registered Dental Hygienist with an Associate of Applied Science or a Bachelor of Science degree in dental hygiene, completes 20 hours of continuing education every two years, and takes the Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course.

Treatment in Hershey, PA
The emphasis is on total preventive care, with the restorative and cosmetic work to repair what dental disease, injury and time have done.
Regular hygiene visits, check-ups and the routine at home between them. The office recommends a minimum of two visits a year, and can typically provide every type of dental service without referring you elsewhere.
Baby teeth matter: they let a child chew and speak clearly, and they guide the permanent teeth into place. A first visit is mostly about getting to know the dentist and the team.
Faded, chipped, stained or uneven teeth, and missing ones. Whitening, porcelain veneers, dental implants and composite bonding.
Root canal therapy when the damage goes beyond what a filling can treat, and a TMJ exam for clicking, aching jaws and the headaches that come with them.
Dr. Sicher takes an impression of your teeth and makes a mouthguard that fits your bite. You wear it with a small amount of bleaching gel overnight or for a few hours a day. The overnight process takes about two weeks.
Thin, semi-translucent porcelain shells bonded to the fronts of your teeth, for gaps, chips and stains. In most cases they are completed in only two office visits.
The common misconception is that they hurt. Actually, a root canal is similar to having a cavity filled, and it keeps the tooth rather than losing it.
Tooth-coloured resin bonded to a chipped or misshapen tooth. It removes little, if any, of the original tooth, and typically takes less than an hour.

The office combines long-established ways of working with the equipment that lets Dr. Sicher see more, sooner, and show you what he is seeing.
New patients
As of April 2019 the practice is not accepting new patients. The office can put your name on a list and call you when that changes. When it does, this is what your first visit looks like.
Call as soon as you know. During business hours we will work you into the schedule. After hours, weekends and holidays, call the office for the doctor’s emergency contact number.
We submit all dental claims for our patients and bill you the balance after your insurance has paid. A preferred provider for:
Aetna, MetLife and Guardian: we will gladly submit your claim, and often your visit is paid with nothing out of pocket. We are no longer a preferred provider for Delta Dental’s Premier network.
Consultations are free. Charges not submitted to insurance are payable at the time of treatment, by Visa, MasterCard or Discover. If you need special payment arrangements, talk to our office manager first.
We ask for 24 hours’ notice to cancel. A broken appointment carries a $35 fee.

Not at the moment. As of April 2019 the practice is not accepting new patients, but the office can put your name on a list and call you when it starts accepting again. Call or text 717-533-6567 to be added.
The American Dental Association recommends a check-up and professional cleaning at least twice a year, and our office also recommends a minimum of two visits per year.
At a first visit we compile your medical and dental history, examine your teeth and gums, screen for oral cancer, take X-rays as needed and complete a TMJ exam, then discuss the diagnosis with you. If a root canal, braces or oral surgery is needed, we will plan to treat you here or refer you to a specialist.
Call the office as soon as you know. We will be glad to work you into the schedule during regular business hours. After hours, over the weekend and during holidays, please call the office for the doctor's emergency contact number.
Yes. We accept many types of dental insurance and will process your claim for you upon receipt of your co-payment. We accept MasterCard, Visa and Discover. If special payment arrangements are needed, talk to our office manager before your treatment.
Your appointment time is reserved for you, so we ask for 24 hours' notice. An appointment not cancelled within 24 hours, or missed without notice, is a broken appointment, and there is a $35 fee for each one.
Hot and cold food and drink can hurt when enamel has worn down, gums have receded or a tooth has developed microscopic cracks, exposing the inside of the tooth. Simply breathing cold air can hurt when teeth are very sensitive, so mention it at your next visit.
A soft-bristled brush and a small strip of fluoride toothpaste, in small circular motions, reaching every surface of every tooth, then your tongue and the roof of your mouth. Floss every day, ideally at night. If your gums still bleed after the first few times, let a staff member know.
